Windermere is a Town in the Lake District actually 1 mile from Lake Windermere, and only took it's name when the railway line was built in 1847 and the station was called Windermere. Lake Windermere was called Winander Mere which comes from the Norse name Vinandre - Mere being a lake, this one being formed 13,000 years ago, and is the largest natural lake in England.



Windermere is a very popular tourist destination for bed and breakfast, and because it's just a pleasant walk down to the Lake it get's very busy at weekends and peak periods, and of course there is also Bowness on Windermere which is well worth a visit.



The Canada Geese on Lake Windermere are a great tourist attraction, and you can either hire a boat or go out on a pleasure trip around the Lake, which is fabulous
