Description
The house dates from the late 14th century and has a fascinating history. King Charles II stayed in the 1670s. Most famously, John Bunyan, the author of “Pilgrims Progress“ (still the third biggest selling book ever in the English language!) was interrogated and imprisoned here in 1660. The house was the property of the Burwell/Wingate families for approximately 470 years. Rooms in the main house have free toiletries, a Nespresso coffee machine, a kettle and have access to a mini fridge with fresh milk. The rooms in the garden have fresh milk. PLEASE NOTE-THERE ARE NO TELEVISIONS. We are a small B and B and have only the facilities you would expect in a small B and B. The King's Room is a 17th century time capsule. It has a dramatic crimson damask state bed, 17th and 18th century antiques, and the hugest bath imaginable! The Tabor Room has an Anglo-Indian 1850's four poster bed and ensuite bathroom, whilst the Garden Room (2/3 of a Tudor great chamber) has a 20' ceiling height, a Regency four poster and a private (BUT NOT ENSUITE-please note!) bathroom. The two cottage rooms (Bunyan and Burwell) are in a converted farm building. They have ensuite shower rooms, and twin beds (Bunyan) and a double (Burwell). Each has a high vaulted ceiling and engineered wooden floors. The Burwell Room has just one step to negotiate in order to gain access. If staying in the main house, you are welcome to make use of one of the reception rooms to read and relax. We are not heating that room at present, however, because of the huge rise in heating costs. Bring a jumper and it should be ok! Note that we do not, unless you receive a specific confirmation from us (i.e we have confirmed to you that we allow dogs in your case), allow dogs. If you send a request to keep a dog and we have not answered (for whatever reason) that message, that will not constitute assent. Unfortunately, even though we have a dog ourselves, many visitors have not properly controlled their pets.
