The University of Birmingham received it's Charter in 1900 and was the first of the red brick Universities to do so. It is located 3 miles to the west of Birmingham City Centre in the suburb of Edgbaston, and houses 26,000 students. You can see the University from miles away by looking for the Joseph Chamberlain Clock Tower, the largest free standing clock tower in the world and affectionately known as "Old Joe".
