Sir Edward Elgar is one of Englands greatest composers. His compositions are instantly recognisable and most recently two pieces were used for the Olympic opening and Closing ceremonies. Nimrod was used during the London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony, and his famous Salut D’Amour was used during the closing ceremony. Other masterpieces include Pomp and Circumstance and Enigma Variations.The Museum is in Lower Broadheath in Worcestershire which is just 3 miles west of the . City of Worcester.
Sir Edward Elgar was born at the cottage on 2nd June 1857 and his family lived in the cottage for two years before moving to Worcester. The cottage has been a museum since 1934 and was set up by Elgar’s daughter after his death. In 2000 the Elgar Centre was opened which allowed more room to house exhibitions and also include a function room and shop. The Museum offers a wonderful insight into Elgar’s life and his hopes and dreams. There are manuscripts, family photographs, scores, programmes and lots of other items linked to the Elgar family so it’s a real treat.
